Rock Your Magic Wand!

When you were a kid, did magic tricks amaze you? Maybe, like me, you loved Harry Potter and my favorite, Hermoine, doing amazing things with their magic wands. It made me wish I could get one and do some magic. Then I saw that J. K. Rowling said this in an interview,

"I've been asked what would happen if a Muggle picked up a magic wand... it's merely a vehicle - a vessel for what lies inside the person." *

It's the element of pretending that makes me smile. Yet, the idea of using make believe opens up a fun new world of options. Not being tethered to the current reality gives you a moment to step back and imagine new solutions or ideas.

Try This: Rock Your Magic Wand!

If you're interested in making your own wand, you can simply use chopsticks, twigs or wooden dowels and find lots of ways to decorate them. Even without one, here are a couple questions to get started with rocking your magic wand:

  • To find a new idea: "To change this situation, what would a wave of my magic wand bring?"
  • To focus on a hopeful future: "With a wave of my magic wand, what would make this better?"

The fun of believing in magic is said best by J.K. Rowling, "It is important to remember that we all have magic inside us." **
