For busy lives when we forget to take care of ourselves, here's a reminder from Jim Rohn, who was an American entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker: Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live.*
It is hard sometimes to slow down and pay attention to our own bodies when worrying or taking care of others. Yet, someone mentioned having a beautiful garden and that means weeds need to be plucked to allow it to flourish. The key is to properly prepare the soil for the seeds to take hold easily. Our minds can get so full of other "issues" that we feel are more important. To think of it as our own "garden," these can become weeds that negatively impact our own health.
Try This: 5 Minutes of Self Reflection to Care for Your Body
Notice what issues have been working against you. Or perhaps a packed schedule fills your mind. The key is not to solve it outright, but to begin recognizing what is blocking you or causing you to not take better care of your body. Here is a quick self-reflection exercise:
- Think about one area of your life where you want to see positive change.
- When you focus on it, what thoughts appear automatically? Are they helping you to move forward - or quietly pulling you away from it?
- Sit with this question and don't give the answer you think you "should" give.
- Write down three things that will help you move toward this positive change.
As you uncover those things to improve your energy and good health of your precious body, remember to schedule regular self-reflection exercises to keep on track!
