With a busy schedule, sometimes the pace is too fast to appreciate special things, time with friends, or something that's important to us. It's easy to rush through and not enjoy the experiences.
For each of us, there are some things that are simply too important to rush through and others that do not need to be drawn out. The idea of being mindful of the speed at which we're going through life can help make changes or adjustments that feel right.
Try This: Appreciate Life with a Little Downtime
Using a few minutes of downtime can help change your pace and help you focus on what matters most. Here's an idea for this week:
- Each day find 5-10 minutes for a break.
- Step away from your desk or turn off your phone, computer or other distraction.
- Get comfortable, close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths.
- Sit quietly and if a "to do" item pops into your mind, jot it down but settle back with deep breathing.
- At the end of the break, notice how you feel. If still agitated, try 5 more minutes.
Often it is hard to take time away when you have a lot of projects or "to do" items. Since it is valuable to have downtime, my favorite break is walking barefoot outside in the yard. It is a great form of grounding that helps calm and shift my mind to peacefulness
