The other day I felt a little guilty doing a game on my laptop instead of working on a project. Then, I saw that a puzzle encourages using different strategies which can help you improve creative thinking.
Here is a great insight from Vera Tobin, Case Western Reserve University, "Puzzles can give you the experience of having a real breakthrough realization, which is one of the best experiences out there. For memory and focus, you can get a nice little boost from doing a short, lightly challenging puzzle." * The idea of a puzzle or brainteaser being a good thing for creativity and focus gives you permission to "work" on solving one, two or more each day!
Try This: Get Creative: Do a Puzzle
When needing to refocus or get ready to start a new project, completing a puzzle or brainteaser can improve cognition. More importantly, they’re fun! Here are a few puzzle sites to check out this week:
- Wordsearch – Here is a free site for fun games, https://thewordsearch.com/
- Matching Moments – Love this game from the Hallmark Channel, https://matchingmoments.hallmarkchannel.com/
- Word Games – For a bunch to try, go to Merriam Webster’s site: https://www.merriam-webster.com/games
While it seems odd that using puzzles is a legit way to get back on track or encourage new ideas, it’s a great excuse to play for a few minutes every day!
