Have you tried to come up with an idea or solution to a problem and felt flat or devoid of creating one? It made me wonder if there is an easy solution. Your creativity feeds on positivity and upbeat thoughts drive those new ideas. Saw an article, Three Good Things, from Berkeley.edu*.
“By remembering and listing three positive things that happened in your day - and considering what caused them - you tune into the sources of goodness in your life. It's a habit that can change the emotional tone of your life, energizing you with positive feelings of gratitude - which may be why this practice is associated with significant increases in happiness." Greater Good in Action, Berkeley.edu*.
The idea is to focus on good things that have happened rather than the issues, problems or upsets that sprinkled into your day. It can tune you to the positive creative part of your brain. The ability to simply bring good things to the forefront gives your creativity a chance to work.
Try This: Get Creative: Note Three Good Things
A new easy practice to give yourself a creative boost, is this easy exercise that only takes ten minutes a day. Grab a notepad, journal or phone and for this week:
- Each day, write down three things that went well for you that day
- Provide a short explanation for why they went well.
- The items can be small, everyday events or more important milestones.
For those times when I am needing a creative jumpstart, this exercise offers a quick fix. Plus, it brings a smile to my face!
