Now that Thanksgiving has passed, we're all turning our attention to Christmas, Hanukkah or other holiday fun. The additional stress of buying presents, shipping some, holiday parties, and more, can be distracting from just enjoying each other.
Before you jump into the holiday craziness, keep focusing on what you're grateful for, as noted in this quote: "Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist of words. Gratitude is shown in acts." Henri Frederic Amiel*
Try This: Take a Thankful Rest Day
Consider the following ways to reclaim your sanity and smiles. Here is an idea:
- Set a "rest" day. If possible, take a full day to do fun things that make you peaceful and joyful.
- Or, set an hour to chill during the week. If a full day is not easy to do, find an hour or two where you can focus on rest and relaxation.
- Use thankful messages to set the tone of your rest day or chill hour. If you wrote some with family and friends on turkey day, pull those out to use and enjoy as part of your relaxation.
While these sound simple, it is so easy to get caught up in all the things to do that you fail to take care of yourself and your mental health!
