Who do you want to be next year?

It's crazy to realize there is a little more than three weeks until the New Year. So many pundits online are asking to help you set goals and plans to prepare for 2026.  Yet often I feel pressure to set goals that are about achieving and doing more in the next year. Then I saw this:

Instead of asking, "What do I want to do next year?" ask, "Who do I want to be next year?"

It's a different perspective to focus on guiding my behavior rather than my work ethic. Asking "who" to be helps refocus on becoming the person that does achieve her dreams.

Try This: Who do I want to be?

If you like to set goals to guide your efforts and you have found success in doing so, keep doing it! If you feel challenged sometimes to figure out specific goals for the new year, consider trying this:

  • Each morning, take a pad and pen to a quiet place to sit peacefully with no distractions.
  • Write at the top of a page, "Who do I want to be next year?"
  • Close your eyes and take 3-5 deep breaths.
  • Listen to your intuition and note images that pop into your mind.
  • Jot down those things that you can try during the next year.

Each morning, see if the notes you take create more of an understanding of who you want to be in the New Year. More importantly, when adding some goals or dreams, getting in touch with who you will be creates the foundation to achieve them.
