Having made it through January with preparing goals or updating dreams for the year, if you have already lost momentum, you're in good company. A crazy statistic from a study at the University of Scranton found that 92% of people fail to achieve their annual goals.* Then I saw this quote by author Tim Grover who worked with professional basketball players Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade to help them on mind-set and mental toughness to achieve their dreams:
"Don't think. You already know what you have to do, and you know how to do it. What's stopping you?" **
In considering the idea of trusting yourself to get what you want, it comes down to shifting your current perspective. It's about letting nothing stand in your way.
Try This: Be Unstoppable
Often achieving our goals or dreams comes down to overcoming your own doubts and trusting your instincts. According to Grover, having a mindset for mental toughness is the key to being unstoppable. Here are his five steps to try this week:
- Decide: Make a firm, unwavering decision to achieve your goal.
- Commit: Dedicate yourself fully to embrace the steps required to achieve the goal.
- Act: Take immediate, consistent action. Stop overthinking and start doing the work daily.
- Succeed: Recognize and celebrate your wins, but do not stop.
- Repeat: Set a new, higher standard and start the process again right away to keep achieving your goals and dreams.
The key is to answer, "Are you ready to be unstoppable?" All you need to do is trust yourself and act.
