Create Your Personal Legacy in 5 Minutes

In confronting aging, I've always wanted to leave a legacy. Really, it's about being remembered for achieving a dream, creating something useful for generations to come, or doing a project that is valued and passed down to family members. For many of us, the legacy is about having been successful and accomplished life goals that will live on.

According to a post on LegacyBooks.com, "A personal legacy is more than possessions or material wealth; it is the heart of who you are, what impact you have created, and what significance you leave behind. Your legacy may consist of the lessons you pass on, the traditions you pass down, and the memories you create with your family and friends. It is the cultural, emotional, and moral footprints you leave behind." *

While careers can be very successful, it is fleeting once you retire. For me, the new focus that I turned to was my writing but the legacy is loosely connected. So, it gave me the idea to focus on giving myself more clarity.

Try This: Create Your Personal Legacy in 5 Minutes

Because your legacy is the only thing that can link you with future generations, one easy way to get started is to look in the mirror. The following simple questions help you get started this week:

  • Who are you to others?
  • What are you in your heart?
  • Where do you spend your time?
  • When are you at your best?
  • Why do you get up in the morning?

If you find it hard to answer a question, turn to someone you trust and ask for his/her input. For example, when I asked a couple of people about who I am, the answers were; a dreamer, hard worker, and creative believer. Being clear on your legacy gives direction for achieving it. Plus, it helps me look forward to reveling in my success!
