Embrace Change with Confidence

How many times a day do you notice something has changed like a new building going up, a home scraped for a rebuild, or even smaller, like your grocery store doesn't carry your favorite ice cream flavor anymore? Seems as if the word "change" comes up all day long that can challenge us to adapt, accept or ignore. It can be disruptive and unsettling.

As a board member of a credit union, it is important for me to keep up with changes in the financial industry to help make the best decisions. An article spotted in an industry publication from Tammy Schultz, Executive Vice President of TruStage Financial Group, offered this key point:

"Change is not something to fear. It's something to understand, manage and celebrate." While it is still hard sometimes to deal with change, her perspective was very helpful.

Try This: Embrace Change with Confidence

It's about being stronger and more resilient to embrace the future. So, the week ahead, here is a grounding exercise, the 5-4-3-2-1 Method, to use when stressed with a packed schedule, being overwhelmed, or a big change:

  • Identify 5 things you see.
  • List 4 things that you can touch.
  • Note 3 things you hear.
  • Locate 2 things you can smell.
  • Find 1 thing to taste.

These days, along with a busy schedule, there are crazy things in the media and online in social media that cause us stress. Having a fun, quick method to get out of your head for a few minutes can make the difference in feeling more relaxed!
