Try 17 Seconds!

When listening to a favorite author and speaker, Esther Hicks, about the Law of Attraction, she kept mentioning that holding a thought of something you want for 17 seconds gets better results. She said,

"Whatever you are giving your attention to is already vibrating. And when you give your attention to it, if you maintain your focus for as little as 17 seconds, you begin to include its vibration, whatever it is, in your vibration."

It made me curious to know the origin of this idea that a thought held for seconds can rewire your brain. Neuroscientist, Jeffrey L. Fannin, PhD, said in an article for The Critical Thought Lab, "The 17-second rule suggests that intentional focus, paired with emotional connection, activates neural pathways in the brain that shape your thoughts, actions, and ultimately, your reality." **

Try This: Try 17 Seconds!

It got me wondering about how to get the most effectiveness and I found a simple method. So, here is the easy one from Critical Thought Lab** for you to try this week:

  • Set a Timer. Use a timer to ensure you focus for at least 17 seconds. You might be surprised at how long 17 seconds feels when you’re concentrating deeply!
  • Engage Your Emotions. Don't just think the thought - feel it. Imagine the excitement, joy, or relief that would come with achieving your desire.
  • Repeat and Build. Over time, try extending your focus to 68 seconds or longer (four times the starter 17). The more you practice, the easier it becomes.

This isn't just OOEEOO because there is a connection to neuroscience. Plus, it's easy but brings your attention to just what ARE you thinking about?!
