Believing is Seeing

One of the things I really enjoy is thrifting with my friend Deb and my daughter, Amanda. It's a blast to go through a charity thrift shop or a Goodwill location, knowing you're repurposing items that have been discarded. Earlier this summer, I found a small framed saying from an unknown author that struck me as something I had to have!

On it, there is a note, "Written during WW2, on the wall of a cellar, by a Jew in the Cologne concentration camp."  Can you imagine the hopefulness that this poor prisoner left in the message below?

"I believe in the sun
even when it is not shining
And I believe in love,
even when there’s no one there.
And I believe in God,
even when He is silent." *

Try This: Believing is Seeing

Sometimes there are situations that test us during the week. To help you reclaim a good mood, many experts talk about the importance of believing.  If you experience a negative situation, consider doing this:

  • First, try changing the way you think about the issue or problem.
  • Next, notice your emotional connection to a shift in perspective.
  • Third, if you feel more positive, then look for the solution.
  • Finally, remember, you'll see it when you believe it.

Every morning, I read the message from that Jewish prisoner to remind myself of the blessing it offers.  Knowing that a prisoner could keep faith even in desperate times is encouraging and gives me that nudge to face the day with a smile!
