Have your summer plans included getting outside in nature? Maybe heading to the beach, the mountains, or just laying out by a pool? Recently, my hubby and I headed to Colorado to meet a new grandbaby and to motor on to stay at a campsite with friends, Diana and Bill. It was wonderful to walk by babbling creeks and see magnificent mountain views. I even caught sight of a moose with her calf!
Yet, when I open my laptop, the world crashes in with emails and “to do” lists, and I get stressed.
"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. … I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles." If your summer has been busy and distracting, sometimes it helps to recharge.
Try This: Get a Recharge in Nature
The best solution when feeling stressed is to find a way to reset your mood. To recharge your emotional batteries, here are a few ideas:
- Step outside, take off your shoes, and stand on the grass or sand for several minutes. (Known as earthing.)
- Sit outside for a few minutes and turn your face to the sun. (Sunshine is good for Vitamin D.)
- Take a walk and smell flowers, touch tree leaves, and brush your fingers along bushes. (Refocuses your mind on the moment.)
- On a patio, porch or open area, stretch your arms to the sky, touch your toes, and move your body for several minutes. (Yoga stretches are good as well.)
The key to a good recharge is to find your own jam. As a walker, I love to touch tree leaves, put my face to the sun, and smell flowers along the way. When home, I have energy and happy blood flowing through my body!
