Two and a half years ago at lunch with my girlfriend Dedra, the discussion about my diagnosis for needing spinal surgery had her ask if I knew about grounding. She told me about how great she was feeling after using a grounding pad.
According to WebMD:
“Grounding, also known as earthing, is when you stand on the earth or have contact with a product that’s grounded into the earth. This connects your body to the natural electric charge of the earth, transferring electrons into your body. Some research shows that soaking up electrons can lower inflammation, ease stress, and improve sleep, to name a few.*
Having had two spinal shots to relieve pain, my ears perked up when Dedra mentioned how great she was feeling each morning after sleeping on a grounding pad. Plus, my hubby, Denny, had all kinds of back and knee pain from years of military service, parachuting out of airplanes and helicopters. So, if grounding helps with inflammation, we were willing to try it.
Try this: Remember to Get Grounded
The idea of grounding, also called earthing, is about an inexpensive way to improve sleep, reduce inflammation and enhance blood flow. According to Clint Ober, Earthing.com, “By reconnecting with the Earth, either by walking barefoot outside…you can help restore balance to your body.” Here are some ways to incorporate grounding in your day:
- Step outside in the grass or sand with bare feet for 10 minutes.
- Add a grounding pad to your bed to sleep better and wake up feeling good.
- Use an earthing mat for your bare feet under your desk during the day.
- Put a grounding pillowcase in your travel bag to take it with you on your next trip.
