Try ONE thing!

On a walk with my girlfriends, Kim and Trish, the subject of goals for the year came up. Both women are dynamos in their careers, and neither had set any goals.  Since I had not set any as well, it made me wonder about the effectiveness of goal setting.

In doing a bit of research, it seems goals may be hard to set because our inner ego resists change and wants to keep us safe where we are.  So, if you're nodding your head right now, not having or not wanting to set goals, I have a great idea.

To jumpstart your year, it may seem daunting to go for a big dream or several goals. So, I came up with a helpful tweak.

Try this: My wish for you - try ONE thing!

As you consider what your year ahead may look like, start with one idea, one thing that has the power to make you smile. Grab a pen and a piece of paper to jot down answers to these prompts:

  • What is one thing that excites you?
  • Is there one leap that feels daring?
  • What is a single move toward a dream you have?

Using your imagination to focus on one thing that gets you excited, and smiling, is an easy way to circumvent your ego. Also, it's so engaging to have a single item rather than a long list of goals to be accomplished.
