As January winds down, I already feel stress creeping in about meeting my goals for the year. With stress, often comes negative self-talk about the disappointment of not achieving more.
Then, I saw this quote from the Dalai Lama, "Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day."* The idea that a simple thought in the morning has the ability to frame the day is a fabulous reason to try it. If one small thought, memory or image can shift my frown to a smile - I’m in!
Try This: Just One Small Positive Thought
When your mood needs an adjustment, begin your day with the advice from the Dalai Lama. Find a positive memory, new adventure, or idea, with these starters:
- I love to see...
- I love to hear...
- I am happy when...
- I enjoy being...
- I remember the fun time when...
The key is that when finishing those prompts, your fun answer makes you smile. For example, a happy thought for me is, "I am happy when... I walk and talk with a girlfriend in the early morning." What about you?
