Ever notice when a "God nudge" really pushes you out of your comfort zone? It happened recently and made me frustrated, even angry. Who likes to have something blindside you when you least expect it?
Yet, this quote from Jack Canfield changed my perspective:
“The biggest rewards in life are found outside your comfort zone. Live with it. Fear and risk are prerequisites if you want to enjoy a life of success and adventure.”*
Being shoved out of your comfort zone can be challenging, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. My idea is to face a big change by switching it into playtime. Nothing more fun as a kid than recess, right?
Try This: Play Outside Your Comfort Zone
When faced with having to step out of your comfort zone, find a way to play with it! Here are some ideas when you're feeling at risk with the new change:
- Try a game or activity that you've never done before. This could be something as simple as playing a new video game, trying a new sport, or learning a new board game. By engaging in a new activity, you can challenge your mind and body to adapt more easily to the change.
- Engage in imaginative play. Create a story or new scenario by using your imagination to explore new possibilities. Allowing your mind to embrace a new perspective can lift your mood.
- Try role-playing in different scenarios. If you take a disappointing situation play-act how you can handle new paths, the distraction can lessen the negative power of the original issue or change.
As a process, it may take some time to find a new comfort zone. Be patient with yourself and keep pushing forward with a little playfulness.
