Yesterday I saved a butterfly. Starting out on my morning walk, I noticed a magnificent Monarch butterfly lying on the street. I bent down and realized it was on its back but there was a little movement of a leg. Gently and carefully, I flipped it over in the grass near it.
My thought was how butterflies are a meaningful sign to others. When seeing one, my friend Darcy thinks of her sister who passed. Another friend, Gayle, sends fun photos and sayings to share our love of butterflies.
Guess what? It was gone a short time later and knowing my gesture saved its life made me clap my hands in joy. Saving a butterfly is magical because it suggests to me that small actions can lead to great rewards in the future.*
Try this: Try a Little Kindness
Why was saving a butterfly a magical moment? It was a sign that a little act of kindness to even the smallest living creature can make an impact. So here are a few ideas for this week:
- Call, text or email a friend that you haven't spoken with for a while
- Send a letter or handwritten note to a grandparent or elderly relative
- Hold the door open for someone else
- Smile and say hello or good morning to people you pass today
- Pick up a piece of trash lying in the street
There are many ways you can offer a little kindness to others, even as simple as walking your dog or like me helping a butterfly. See how many you can rack up this week!
