What is your favorite treat? Is it dinner at a special restaurant? Is it a spa treatment, manicure/pedicure, or facial? Is it heading out to get a yogurt or ice cream treat? Or reading undisturbed in a comfy chair for a while? Maybe a mid-afternoon nap?
All of these things are fun examples of doing something just for yourself. Yet, busy schedules can make it hard to fit in those treats. Many of us feel guilty if we are not being productive. In essence, "Take time to do what makes your soul happy." (Unknown)
Try This: Do Something For YOU!
The key is to give yourself time to recharge, pause to reflect, or simply reenergize. Here are some ideas from the National Institute of Mental Health:
- Get regular exercise. Just 30 minutes of walking every day can help boost your mood and improve your health.
- Practice gratitude. Remind yourself daily of things you are grateful for. Write them down at night or replay them in your mind.
- Stay connected. Reach out to your friends or family members who can provide emotional support and practical help.*
While these are just a few suggestions, challenge yourself to find fun things that spark your spirit and make you smile!
