Listening to a friend complain that she doesn't have enough time in the day reminded me that I need to check out my own schedule. The question for me has been, do I have the focus on the right things? Or, am I wasting time on allowing my calendar to be cluttered with "other stuff" on my To-Do list?
Then it hit me, I need a plan. When you have a plan, it's easier to know what you need to do. Every successful business uses a strategic plan which is why I've used one for my company. Yet personal goals and dreams sometimes seem vague or unattainable. It may seem daunting even to pinpoint the steps. The key is that once you do, it's easy to put the pedal to the metal to get it done.
Try This: I Have a Plan
To be more productive, to get moving on your dream path or make a change for the better, consider making a plan. Here are some easy steps:
- Gather supplies - if you like physical reminders, get a wall calendar, color pens, post-it notes. For online or using your phone, set up a calendar with color coding to use for appointments and color choices for text to make them stand out.
- Embrace the power of your calendar - schedule time for idea generation on your plan and a second appointment to accomplish one step each day. Color code these.
- Determine a first step - every day, you can accomplish a baby step, so focus on it and add a next step for tomorrow.
- Find an accountability partner - ask a friend once a week to check in and discuss the progress on your plan.
