Imagine Your Worry Away!

A whole week into the New Year and how are you feeling?  I find myself starting to worry about getting everything done, missing opportunities, and making it a great year. Then, what popped in my mind was the old adage: "Why Worry, Why Fret - Neither Got Me Anything Yet!"

And this resonated with a message from best-selling author and philosopher, Mike Dooley: "What happens when someone worries? Basically, they think of 100 reasons why something might go wrong. And all of those thoughts then struggle to become things, sometimes overriding their more constructive thoughts. That's the power of worry." *

Try This: Close Your Eyes - Imagine Your Worry Away!

It is always key to find tools that work for you to get back on track to having a great year. Whether for that special someone or yourself, choose a new candle that makes you smile.  So, Mike Dooley offered the idea of doing a simple technique:

  • His idea is to close your eyes and imagine 100 reasons why what you’re worrying about might instead come to you easily, fast, and harmoniously!
  • Then, my addition is to write down one to three reasons that stood out or gave you joy, peace or excitement.
  • Next time you start worrying, refer to the reasons you wrote down to nip that "trip down the rabbit hole" in the bud.

The best thing about this simple tool is it can be done anytime you feel anxiety or worry. Simply close your eyes and think of reasons things will work out fine. And, “poof,” you banish the worry! I'm all for simple, aren't you?
