Learn Something New

What if when you were learning to talk, no one could understand your baby talk, so you gave up? Or, as a toddler learning to walk you fell ten times, so stopped trying? Maybe the first time you tried to ride a bicycle, you wobbled badly, got discouraged, so never learned?

The key is that we are wired to try new things and practice until we get good at them. The perseverance, the "can-do" attitude, even the "get up and dust yourself off" approach, all are part of our DNA.

"Research shows that you begin learning in the womb and go right on learning until the moment you pass on. Your brain has a capacity for learning that is virtually limitless, which makes every human a potential genius."  Michael J. Gelb*

Since learning is also a fun escape, what new thing can you learn?

Try This: Learn Something New Today

All of us have something we would like to learn or for a long time have thought would be good to accomplish. So here are some ideas:

  • Read up on a new subject
  • Walk or jog daily
  • Start a yoga habit
  • Learn to play the piano
  • Write a book
  • Take flying lessons

My focus this week is reading "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert about creative living beyond fear. She was the author of Eat, Pray, Love. Reading it is helping me learn how to embrace the magic for my dreams and goals!
