The month is zipping by, and maybe like me, you still haven't written your goals for the year. Maybe you have set some goals yet have failed to get traction on them. It's hard to make changes, develop new habits, or weave new things into our busy days.
"Sticking to your resolutions requires a lot of mental strength," said Yazhini Srivathsal, MD, a psychiatrist with Banner Behavioral Health Hospital in Scottsdale, AZ. "It becomes a little easier if you understand what’s going on in your head when you get the urge to give up on your goals."* You may just need a simple fix.
Try This: Reboot, Rejoice, Relax!
Moving forward in achieving your goals for the year can be bumpy. So here are the steps to get back on track:
- Reboot – If not getting traction, wipe the slate and begin again with small steps to get back in the habit.
- Rejoice - Celebrate milestones, even small steps you achieve each week and month, to motivate yourself.
- Relax - When feeling pressure, pause to stretch, take a deep breath, and even walk around, because distracting yourself can engage new energy.
These suggestions made me feel more confident and are easy to remember; reboot, rejoice, and relax. Let me know if these suggestions help when you need a restart!
